A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place: Day One

We are on the edge of finding how “the world went quiet” in A Quiet Place: Day One, a prequel that explores the unexpected catastrophe on a broader scale. Given the critical and commercial achievements of A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II, it’s no surprise that the series is expanding.

Quiet Place made a major impact when it originally appeared, stunning horror fans with its novel idea. Not only did it expose Emily Blunt to a post-apocalyptic world replete with sound-sensitive creatures, but it also displayed John Krasinski’s directing talent in the horror genre. The film was a turning point for modern horror, which was further magnified by the sequel that featured Cillian Murphy

John Krasinski, who wrote and directed the first two films, conceptualized the fundamental premise for Day One years ago and has been developing the script since. After several delays, the movie was ultimately filmed early last year, and Paramount Pictures has planned its release for June 28, 2024.

While Krasinski is acknowledged as one of the writers for Day One, he is not directing this segment. The same goes to the upcoming A Quiet Place: Part III, where he will similarly work purely as a writer for now.

Day One is directed by Michael Sarnoski, recognized for his work on the Nicolas Cage movie Pig. Sarnoski co-wrote the picture alongside Krasinski and Bryan Woods, the latter of whom co-wrote the previous A Quiet Place movies and the prehistoric action thriller 65 starring Adam Driver.

Unexpectedly, the beloved characters from the first two films are not slated to feature in Day One, making room for a new ensemble. However, Djimon Hounsou will resume his role as Island Man. This film may give further insight into his mysterious character and his experience during the opening days of the apocalypse. The core cast also features Lupita Nyong’o as Sam, Joseph Quinn as Eric, and Alex Wolff as Reuben.

The supporting cast comprises Zay Domo Artist, Thea Butler, Jennifer Woodward, Sunjay Midda, Malik Jubal, Elijah Ungvary, and Káit Feeney.

In addition to authoring the prequel, John Krasinski is looking ahead, with tentative plans to develop a third main-series feature in the A Quiet Place saga, presumably continuing the narrative of the Abbott family in a world that has become quiet.
