After a successful area competition, GP DECA gets ready for the state competition. SCDC (the state competition) will be held in Bellevue, where students will compete in roleplays with hopes of qualifying for the international competition. With two role plays for each participant there will be some down time for the DECA members to bond over food and Legos. “It is a treat to go out there and be able to hang out with your friends, and do everything like going to the mall, there is a Lego store over there, so it is pretty cool” Mathew Reeder said.
Last year, Junior Kate Webb made it to ICDC (the international competition). Now as a senior she is ready to make one last run at DECA glass. “I do apparel and accessories marketing, because I like apparel and accessories and I like applying marketing concepts to them,” Kate Webb said “I am really excited to compete and hang out with my friends one last time.”
Jackson Murphy is heading into his senior year after a long football season, preparing to compete in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team competition with junior Brady Proctor. “I am most excited to win state and go to ICDC and be on top,” Murphy said. He and Proctor are teaming up in the most popular team competition in DECA.
Shay Russon has been in DECA for three years now and is serving on the GP DECA officer team. “I do apparel and accessories because when I was picking my event a few years ago I asked my friend Kate (Webb) what she did and I decided I wanted to do this event too because I like fashion,” Russon said. “I am really excited to room with my friends and see everyone else who is in DECA, I just want to have fun and make the most of state and hopefully make it too ICDC.”
