As 2023 ends, and the new year comes rushing in, along with it come the trends of 2024. From new takes on old trends, to the introduction of new items, let’s take a look at what’s been trending lately as we head into the new year.
Looking into older trends, the reintroduction of slimmer shoes. In recent years we’ve seen the rise of chunkier footwear such as platform boots, as well as so-called “dad shoes” which, yes, are still in style, but are now accompanied with a skinnier silhouette. One shoe that has been making waves is the Adidas “Sambas” which can be seen everywhere since they were popularized early last fall. Also returning as a blast from the past, off the shoulder tops have been seen more lately. Although you have the option of buying one, we seen people all over bringing out the scissors and DIYing them with their own t-shirts or hoodies. In classic Regina George fashion, off the shoulder sweaters have been a big part of this trend. Although they may not be the most practical for winter weather, they give off a warm and cozy feel. Good places to find these tops would most likely be Urban Outfitters or Tillys. Speaking of early 2000s fashion, I can’t go without mentioning the controversial “jorts”, you either hate them or you love them, but you can’t deny that they’ve been making their influence on fashion lately. The best places to find your own pair of jorts would be Levi’s or thrifting them second-hand.
In terms of new trends, we have seen a rise in the style of “workwear” which is usually composed of a hoodie, a hardy pair of baggy jeans, and work boots or sturdy sneakers. With this style has come the popularization of the Carhartt brand, which can be seen everywhere nowadays. From their unique jeans and cargo pants to their diverse jackets and coats, there is a reason that this brand is trending this winter. Timberland’s boots also get an honorable mention as they have been showing up more recently. These would be a great shoe to add to your wardrobe, as they are so easy to dress differently, from 90s to the before-mentioned workwear.
It is also important to look at what trends will be keeping us warm this winter. Layering is a great way to bring variety to your outfits, whether it be a puffer or fleece vest over your shirts, or a long sleeve top under a short sleeve top, there are lots of way to stay warm in style. If you are looking for alternatives to puffer jackets, look no further than a classic, loose leather jacket or bomber jacket, perfect for trapping in the heat and keeping out the cold.
