This past Friday, was the annual pickleball tournament. In past years, it was put on by ASB but they dropped the sponsorship and it was picked up by the class officers. A whopping 24 teams participated this year, including two teams of teachers. With an $8 entry fee per player, the final amount of $200 will be split between class of 2025 and class of 2029. Beginning at 12:30p.m. and lasting until 3:30p.m., every team had the chance to play each other to place them into a final bracket.
“This was a senior and freshman run activity, so we could mentor the freshman and show them how to run a fundraiser,” Campbell Hughes said. “I thought Mr. Bonner was going to win, but he didn’t.”
The final matchup went on between the two teams “Lil’ Dinkers” consisting of Kiya Andersen and Nathan Olson and the “Soul Crushers” including Mr. Hill and Mr. Bonner. Making it to 2nd place last year, Andersen and Olson partnered up again, to continue working towards becoming champs.
“We were also partners last year, I think this year we made a lot less mistakes, and a big threat Brian Hunter wasn’t in the competition this year,” Kiya Andersen said. “I just showed up with my racket, we play every once in a while, the competition was easy.”
Both players were very happy with the final placement. “It feels like I have taken my rightful place,” Nathan Olson said. “I’m trying to stay humble.”
As a prize, Andersen and Olson won 2 t-shirts, the front saying “Pickleball Champions” and the back depicting a Pickle along with the text “I’m kind of a Big Dill.”
“Both Mr. Hill and I hadn’t played in over a year. We both felt pretty good about our performance on Friday. We both agreed that we were super sore,” Mr. Bonner said. “Put us up against those two boys again, we will destroy them.”
