This past Friday, May 19 the varsity softball team defeated the Eastlake Wolves to secure their spot in the state tournament. But that was only one of their wins. starting at the beginning of the district they went against remind and beat them 3-1. Putting them going against Bothell the next game which unfortunately they lost 1-3. with that loss, they got put into the losers’ bracket. “When we lost to Bothell it was a little upsetting but we immediately knew that we still had a chance to go to the state if we won the next three games. which I knew we had a good shot at it because I was confident in our team’s ability to fight for the spot,” Katelyn McCallum said.

The next team they were up against was Issaquah which they won 10-0 which they had ten-runned them in the fifth inning. Putting them up against Woodinville right after. In that game, they won 8-0 which meant they were only one win away from going to state. “Once we beat Woodinville and we knew we were going to go against Eastlake we were pretty confident that we would win as we have beaten them before so we knew we could do it again but at the same time we needed to prepare because we would be going against the winner of Kamiak v. Skyline,” Mckellen Hamilton said.

During the Eastlake game, they beat them 9-0 which meant they finally secured their spot in the state tournament. But then they had one more game which was against Kamiak as they had beaten Skyline. The game against Kamiak was to determine third and fourth place. Which in the end the Grizzlies won 4-2 in the 9th inning. “Unfortunately since I can’t play because of my surgery I had to sit out and watch most of the season. But watching my team work their butts off and fight their way to state has been so cool to watch and cheer them on during it,” Tyler Gordon said.

But even after all these wins, the team is still working hard to prepare themselves to be the best they can be as they don’t find out who they are up against until Monday, May 22.
