Return to Desert Canyon

The beginning of the spring season means the beginning of spring sports and our girls’ golf team is ready to get back on the course. Last season the team was able to go to Desert Canyon and play in the annual tournament the team holds every year. This year, the girls are going again, spending three days playing together at the beautiful course and they are hoping to maintain their championship and continue to hold the trophy for their school as long as they can.

“Last year it was really really windy and honestly very cold, but we were able to play within the elements and make it out on top for the weekend,” senior Hannah Young said. Young has been a part of our Glacier Peak golf team for the past four years and was a part of the group when they won the tournament last year.

This year, the tournament will take place on May 1st and 2nd. The team will be driving up there and the trip consists of a three-hour drive, team bonding, shared rooms, and lots of golf. The varsity team consisting of six core players, will be representing the school this year, and they are more than excited to take home the gold for Glacier Peak.

“Desert Canyon was the highlight of my season!” senior Kate Winston said, expressing how truly fun this tournament is. “Getting first was great. I am super excited to continue working on my game and getting better! I also am looking forward to playing new courses and making new memories,” Winston added.

As these seniors continue to work towards the end of their last season, Desert Canyon is the last tournament before districts and state. “It’s a fun relaxing tournament that we get to enjoy before all the pressure of the end of the season,” Young said.
