Trouble in the Stables

What started as a 9-7 lead in favor of the Grizzlies at the end of the first quarter transitioned to a back and forth game with the Mavericks on top 55-40, a season low score for the Grizzlies.

What was more upsetting than the score of the game was the lapse in character of the fans.

Like at any high school game there are cheers and excitement when your school’s team is winning but as we always hear at the beginning of any WESCO game, or in Glacier Peak’s case, at every pep assembly, the famous words of WESCO’s motto “Be loud, be proud, be positive.” These words seemed to be ignored by the fans of Meadowdale High School. From the fan section cheers from the other side like, “You got swatted,” and chants directed toward individual players clearly in violation of good principles.

As the game was nearing an end with a Maverick lead, the Meadowdale student section addressed our crowd and told us to “Start our tractors.”

The competitive loss for the Grizzlies on the court, was definitely a loss for the Maverick’s sportsmanship. In the midst of the Maverick fan negativity, the Grizzly fans kept their cool. “Thank you, I am proud of you guys,” Assistant Principal Shannon Hasiak said.

Zach Argue lead the team with a scoring high of 15 points.

“Be loud, be proud, and be positive,” seems to be carrying true and the win or lose on the court, the class act that Glacier Peak fans showed is a reflection on their school and on them.
