Solo: a Star Wars Story Review
June 5, 2018
Solo: a Star Wars Story is the 10th movie in the Star Wars franchise. It opened May 25, just in time for a long Memorial Day weekend.
Solo is a trip into the past with fan favorites from “A New Hope,” “Empire Strikes Back,” and “Return of the Jedi.” It follows the story of Han Solo, originally played by Harrison Ford, Chewbacca originally played by Peter Mathew, and Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams.
In earlier films there is mention of how Han Solo and Lando Calrasian knew each other. There is reference to how Solo won the Millennium Falcon in a card game. In Solo: a Star Wars Story, the game plays out in a few scenes and their relationship is established through their gambling.
This movie is fun for Star Wars lovers. It does well at keeping continuity between the other films and the characters’ personalities. It continually came with great humor, action, and plot twists.
This movie also could stand alone with those hoping to watch it without knowing much about the Star Wars universe. You may not understand some inside jokes they bring into the film but the action and story line is still very enjoyable.
Solo, though I would recommend Star Wars lover seeing it, did not excite me as much as I hoped. It was a great movie, but not so great that I say you have to run to the theatre immediately.
Overall, this is a great action film following a group of smugglers traveling the galaxy looking to score big money and pay off debts, creating connections and betraying them along the way.
