Melt Cosmetics
March 26, 2018
Melt Cosmetics is a makeup company founded by Lora Arellano-Tovar and Dana Bomar, after they met while working at makeup counters in Nordstrom. Known for it’s unusual lipstick colors and ultra-pigmented eye-shadows, Melt Cosmetics has quickly become a popular and well-respected company. The spotlight was put on them with the release of their Rust eye shadow stack, in July of 2016, with the shade, ‘Rubbish’ becoming extremely sought after because of how unique of a color it is. With over 2.7 million followers on Instagram alone, they are one of the top indie cosmetics brands currently on the market. But do their products live up to the hype?
Unconventional Noods
This set includes four nude lipsticks with a little twist, they are completely different than what usual nude lipsticks look like. ‘Tomboy’ is a grey with neutral undertones, ‘Voyeur’ is a warm tan shade, ‘1969’ is best described as looking like an orange creamsicle, and ‘Mural’ is a burnt orange. All four lipsticks are an ‘Ultra-Matte’ formula, and are also vegan and cruelty-free. They sell for $19.00 individually or $64.00 if you buy them as a collection.
The colors look exactly how they do online and the formula goes on very easily. They are pretty drying because of how matte they are, but that also makes them stay on for a very long time. They didn’t need to be reapplied after eating and drinking, and still looked the same after a full day of wear. I would recommend ‘Mural’ or ‘1969’ for people who aren’t as interested in wearing super unnatural colors of lipstick. For makeup lovers who like unusual colors, this collection is definitely worth the money.
Rust, Radioactive and Dark Matter Eye Shadow Stacks
Even though Melt Cosmetics started off by selling lipstick, they are more famous for their eye-shadow stacks, especially ‘Rust’. The ‘Rust’ stack sells for $58.00, and includes 5 matte eye-shadows. The ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Radioactive’ stacks both sell for $48.00, with 4 shadows each.
All of the shadows are extremely pigmented and blend out well, and are great for both dark or natural eye looks. The ‘Dark Matter’ stack is great for an all-around palette as it has both light shadows for day-time, and darker ones for night.
Over all, Melt Cosmetics is a great higher-end indie cosmetics brand and has a product for almost any kind of makeup wearer. All of their products can be found at www.meltcosmetics.com
