“I’m in a few different extracurriculars. The longest one I’ve been in that I’m still doing right now actually is piano. I started when I was in 5th grade, but I first got into it because I had a teacher who taught keyboard classes, which is what first got me interested in piano. We were using the school-provided keyboard, which was pretty old, and then later, when I was around 7th grade, my parents got me a keyboard of my own, and I started practicing with that and began going to piano classes. That was when I was like, okay, I’m starting to like this, and then finally, my freshman year, I got a real piano and finally got to go shopping for it. We were originally going to settle for one piano that I really liked, but I didn’t feel super connected to it and my parents said I could go around the store and go explore other pianos while we pay for this one, and then I found this little piano in the corner and when I started playing it I knew it was the one. I ran out and told my parents, like, hey, I know you both are already in the process of buying a piano, but can we buy this one? So that’s how I got my piano, and I’ve gotten really connected to it ever since. That’s one of my favorite hobbies. One of my favorite songs is called ‘Song From A Secret Garden,’ it took me a really long time to learn, even though it probably shouldn’t have,” Giacat Nguyen said.
