“I’m going to California State University Northridge in LA, and I’m going to be doing deaf studies. When I was a sophomore, I was working in Life Skills and Unified PE and I saw somebody use sign language and was like, “Oh that’s really cool.” At the same time, I have an auditory processing disorder. With everyone wearing masks, I had no idea what people were saying, especially in PE and math, and it was super confusing. So, I was like, “Oh, sign language would be really cool.” So, I started learning sign language off of YouTube and Tik Tok and shows and I just really liked it. In December, I was like, “Oh, I should do deaf studies.” So, I impulsively decided to go to CSUN. I’m going to go to medical school because I want to be a pediatric neurologist. But I’m also considering being a medical trauma psychologist and working with deaf and hard of hearing kids. It’s not as hard as you think. If you want to try [sign language], try, because not a lot of people know sign language and it’s so much fun and convenient to be able to talk through windows and stuff. Just learn it. Look it up on YouTube.”
