Spring is finally here in Washington, the weather is warming up, the flowers are blooming, and the days are getting longer. This is the time of year when you don’t want to be stuck inside staring at a screen. So, if you’re like me and ready to take advantage of the season, here are some awesome things you can do in Washington this spring.
Hiking:
Washington is full of good trails, and spring is the perfect time to check them out. The weather is just right, not too hot, not too cold. If you love being outside, hiking is one of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Some trails, like Rattlesnake Ledge or Twin Falls, are close to Seattle and have some of the best views.
Paddleboarding and Kayaking:
Once the weather gets warmer, it’s time to hit the water. Whether you’re a total pro or a beginner, paddleboarding or kayaking on lakes like Lake Washington or Lake Union is a fun way to spend the day. It’s the perfect combination of relaxation and activity, plus you get to enjoy some gorgeous views of the city and the mountains.
Farmers’ Markets and Local Events:
Fresh produce, local flowers, and live music are at farmers’ markets all over Washington. It’s a great way to spend time with friends, eat something delicious, and maybe even get some fresh flowers to brighten up your room. If you’re in Seattle, Fremont, or Ballard, they will have their own farmers’ markets. For fans of the florals, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (April 1 through April 30) is the perfect opportunity to walk around and check out some colorful fields of flowers. It’s not super exciting, but it’s a chill way to enjoy spring.
Road Trips:
Spring break is the perfect excuse to take a road trip, and Washington has so many cool places to check out. If you’re into nature, there are three national parks to explore: Mount Rainier, Olympic National Park, and North Cascades National Park. Whether you want to go hiking, camping, or enjoy the views, these spots are stunning this time of year. Plus, road trips with friends are always a good time; you can make a playlist, stop at cute cafes, and just get away from everything for a little while.
Volunteering:
Volunteering probably doesn’t sound like the most exciting thing to do when you could be hanging out with your friends, but hear me out. Spring is a great time to give back to the community, and honestly, it can be super rewarding. There are tons of local events like park cleanups, charity runs, and community garden projects. Not only do you get to do something positive, but you also meet new people and get that good energy that comes with making a difference.
Why Spring is the Best Time to Be in Washington
Spring in Washington is just the perfect time to go out and enjoy the sun, and from hiking through scenic trails to kayaking in the lakes to checking out local events and road trips, there’s no shortage of amazing things to do. And the best part? You get to do it all with your friends, soaking up the sunshine and making memories that’ll last all year long.
