For the past six weeks, Alderwood AMC theaters have been playing a new Spider-Man movie every week, providing posters to go along with each movie. Many fans head back into theaters to experience the nostalgia of Tobey Maguire, the heart break of Andrew Garfield, and the modern flair of Tom Holland. “Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spider-Man because he is the one I grew up watching. My earliest memories of superheroes involve him as Spider-Man, so the nostalgia factor plays a big part,” Landon Thompson said.
With the Spider-Man comics premiering in Jul 31, 1962, Spider-Man has been a fan favorite for decades. Comic creator Stan Lee expressed his thought process while creating Spider-Man and the costume that goes along with it. “What I like about the costume is that anybody reading Spider-Man in any part of the world can imagine that they themselves are under the costume,” Lee said to Newsarama in 2015.
Without much hope that a comic about a kid who gets bitten by a spider and gets superpowers would take off, Lee published the comic anyways. When he brought the idea to his publisher, his publisher had a few comments. “First of all, people hate spiders, so you can’t call a hero Spider-Man,” Lee said, quoting his publisher, during his UCLA commencement speech. As a hail-Mary, Lee put the comic into the last issue of a dying magazine, and it ended up becoming so popular, they turned it into a series.
You can catch Spider-Man in the Alderwood AMC theater until Jun 7, ending with Spider-Man: No Way Home. “I would 100% recommend seeing Spider-Man in theaters. There’s something about seeing it in theaters that makes the movies so much better,” Shay Russon said.
