After the past rocky years of movies being released there was finally a (semi) typical movie year. From horror to cartoons here is how the top movies of 2022 ranged.

“Both of the Top Gun movies are some of my favorite movies of all time,” Mia Corsaro said.  “I absolutely love the second movie Top Gun Maverick just a little bit more than the first movie. But I really like them both,” Corsaro said. Many people seem to agree with her choice as the number one-grossing movie overall genres and ages is Top Gun Maverick,  this movie stands high above the rest, selling about 78 million tickets and grossing over 718 million dollars in revenue.

Following behind is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which sold 47 million tickets and made a profit of 438 million dollars. The third movie, Avatar: The Way of Water was released month(s) after these other two movies and still managed to end up on the top of this list in front of other movies released sooner. Avatar: The Way of Water sold around 46 million tickets and made 425 million dollars.

Avatar: The Way of Water became the first movie to cross one billion in ticket sales in just 14 days breaking the record of any other movie in 2022 and overall.

When it comes to PG-rated movies, Minions: Rise of Gru ranked number six overall and number one in PG-rated movies. This movie sold over 40 million tickets and made 369 million dollars. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made number two on PG movies and number ten overall, selling over 20 million tickets and making over 190 million dollars. Puss in Boots: The last wish came out at the end of December and still managed to make it up to number seven on PG movies from 2022 and number thirty-two overall of the year. This movie made over 61 million dollars in revenue and sold over 6 million tickets.

Top Gun Maverick takes number one on the list of action movies as well with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever second again and Avatar: The Way of Water following once again.
