Robotics is starting their build season on January 7th, and there are many exciting things on the horizon for the club. Advised by Mr. Wilson, they have has kick-started the new school year and has been busy preparing for the future build and competition seasons, which start on January 7th and March 8th respectively. The officers have shared a preview of what they are working on and what can be expected in the upcoming months.

“Build season is going to start soon, so we are going to receive the game for the season, like what we have to do with the robot. We’ll start by brainstorming different ways of doing that. We’ll also do some prototyping, CAD, etc. At some point we’ll have a schedule of what we need to get done to give the electronics team and the programming team enough time. By March 3rd, we’ll have a functioning robot hopefully,” Operations Officer Harika Govindula said.

For the robot, the club doesn’t have a plan for it yet, as they build the robot based off the rules that FIRST, the host organization, gives them. “We don’t have an actual robot planned yet because we decide on the plan and the design during the season. The rules of the game that FIRST gives us includes limitations on the robot we can design. These include what materials we can use, how much we can spend, the size restrictions of the robot, etc,” Finance Officer Isabella Gicole said.

Aside from the robots and upcoming competitions, the club is also doing something different to expand interest in Robotics and STEM fields. “We’re planning on doing some outreach events with elementary schools to get more people interested in Robotics. We are hosting an FLL event for little kids in December. An FLL event stands for First Lego League and is an exploration event for young people interested in Robotics. These and other events provide an opportunity for teams to showcase their work, meet other teams, and celebrate, “Safety Officer Charlotte Parry said.
