After performing many well-attended shows, the thrill of excitement fills the hearts of many band kids from the looming field trip to Disney Land. This trip arrives on April 5, during Spring Break, reminiscent of the same trip the band took only two years ago. “I went my freshman year, and it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in high school,” Braxton Hood said regarding the previous trip
On previous trips, the band did many activities in Disneyland including performing Pirates of the Caribbean in the park and participating in a lab where the people who listened to their performances helped them in the experiments. “I hung out with a bunch of upperclassmen, it was a good opportunity to meet a bunch of new people, and it was really, really fun. It was pretty much just Disneyland with my friends for a whole week,” said Hood, later saying, “I’m still hanging out with some of them this weekend. There are friends who I’m very close with.”
But this year, band students are more excited about other attractions in Disneyland. Eston Hubbard, a member of the band who is going on the trip says he’s excited for the “new Star Wars thing.” Since he claims you’re able to make your lightsabers, and that he would make a purple lightsaber since he likes Mace Windu. Eston is also excited about Space Mountain, “It’s in the dark and its super fun and there are huge lines,” Hubbard said. But when asked what was in the ride he said, “Nothing it’s just darkness.”
Though not all students are able to attend the band field trip, either because to events they must attend to like sports, or they chose to not go in fear of their grades plummeting. Bradley Lim is one of these kids who decided to not go onto this field trip this year, but he doesn’t sound sad over the whole ordeal. He claims to have gone on the Disney trip in the past and had fun going on all the rides, like Avengers Infinity Defense, and his favorite moment from Disney Land in his words is “riding the Incredicoaster, since it was super-fast and thrilling.” But Bradley decided not to return since he worries about missing school and also since the lines were long.
