It’s been said that Running Start is difficult and demanding, but students in the program say it’s not nearly as rigorous as college is made out to be. The Running Start program pinpoints a condemning place in the student’s academic career. Running Start is a program that allows juniors and seniors in high school to attend college level classes to get high school and college credits. Balancing college life with high school life can be demanding, especially during midterms. Surprisingly though, students are not that stressed at all. Some students claim that they do not feel the worry and pressure about midterms. “The midterms don’t really affect me at all, to be honest, it is pretty easy and my work here at Glacier Peak is not at the point where it affects me that much,” junior Chris Reynolds said.
By splitting up student’s schedule into high school and Running Start, there comes a pocket of time where there are lots to do. Students enrolled in running start can either choose to be full-time Running Start or do part time. Part time Running Start allow students to only go to a certain number of periods at Glacier Peak and go the rest at the Running Start program. Between these two, students have lots of time to work on both high school and college tasks. “Since I have less classes to think about, I feel like I have more freetime and I don’t know it’s just easier. I find it easier than going full time,” junior Jasmine Neph said.
Junior Aiden Rapanan feels Running Start is fairly simple to keep up with. “All of my classes are really easy both high school and in Running Start. Since it’s just the beginner classes, you only really learn the basics and what not. And to add onto that there aren’t any big finals, just assignments and stuff.”
In general, Running Start might be easier than what people say. Even if someone says it’s hard or it’s not worth it, don’t let it stop you from achieving a better future for yourself.
