With the school coming to an end, fall sport training is kicking up in gear for summer practice. Many sports are starting camps, open gyms, and practices to prepare for the 2024-25 sports season.
Open gyms for volleyball offer a time for both girls and boys to play and get some consistent practice in for the upcoming season. The open gyms aren’t just limited to Glacier Peak students, however. Incoming freshmen are welcome to come if Final Forms are filled out and submitted. Currently, they are being held at Valley View Middle School. “It’s honestly really fun to just play with the team again and get to see who might join next year. It is a cool experience to play with the guys too and just get a different type of competition,” Lucy Cornelius said.
Glacier Peak Football has also started their spring training and is looking at a busy summer with summer practices and CWU camp which is a great experience for players to gain experience and get back into the consistency of playing again. While some players had been playing football out of season, Spring practices will be a chance to gain teamwork skills for players to cooperate. “We have practices all through June and a training camp after school gets out, I’m looking forward to the next season, I think it’s going to be a good one,” Coach Jared Bartsch said. Even students are looking forward to FNL (Friday Night Lights) coming back and watching our fellow students compete.
One of our newer teams added to the school, Glacier Peak Dance Team has just concluded their tryouts and the team is excited to start their new journey and practice over the summer in time for the next school year. While there were dance teams at GP in previous years, the new coach wanted to switch it up and add something new to the school with POM dances and focus on hip-hop and Jazz. The next practices will help dancers prepare to learn new dances which students can see in the next year.
