As the ACT testing is nearing, many Junior students have begun to prepare, (or stress) about this upcoming event. English, Mathematics, Reading, and Scientific Reasoning all make up what is the ACT test. Covering these four academic skill areas, Juniors of GP have begun to participate in ways to get themselves ready for this long test. As four hours of the school day is used up to take this standardized exam. Although many students have begun to study, since this test is not as popular as other standardized tests, (SATs) some have been openly expressing their opinion on how this test is not as needed compared to others.
Measuring basic academic skills, the ACT evaluates Juniors’ capabilities at these levels. Various students are preparing to take this test in multiple ways, some being prep books, online courses, and watching videos. Prep books being the main option, “I have been reading the ACT guide prep book to prepare, honestly it was the first one I found on Amazon but it had alot of reviews and so far it has been pretty helpful and easy to follow,” Olivia Donohue said. Other options such as Online courses are also being used to study as well, “I found this free online course on google recently through a friend and I’ve been using it to study alot,” Hanna Ligons said.
On another hand, some students have openly shown their lack of acknowledgment toward this test as they don’t see this test as significant in comparison to other standardized tests. As ACTS are usually widely taken as a whole school, some students see this exam as just a everyday mandatory thing, “I dont really see a point in taking the ACT’s because we already have the SAT’s and I feel like colleges focus more on that in comparison to the ACT’s” Lauren Hufford said. As this exam is nearing, students have been challenged with making the big decision to prepare, or not to prepare!
