The Variety Show is taking place on Jan. 17 for its second year in a row being held and hosted by GP theatre club. The show will be put on in the PAC and tickets will be sold for five dollars at the door. “The Variety Show is a chance for people outside of theatre to express themselves for one night through talents. We have singers, dancers, and songwriters that enjoy to perform outside of our typical shows,” Abigail Savage said.
Multiple performers join the Variety Show and carefully perfect an act they wish to perform. “I am going to be performing popular from Wicked. I chose this act because Wicked has been very popular this year and I closely relate to the character of Glinda. I have been practicing my song everyday and blocking out what I will do in the song with my sister who is acting as my Elphaba,” performer Inge Jorgensen said.
Along with performers in the show, there are also two MCs. “My job as an MC is to announce all of our talented performers. I’m very excited to MC. Last year my two friends and I did a mean girls performance, that was so rewarding and so much fun. I’m looking forward to the show because of how supportive everyone was and how fun the process was,” Caiah Wendt said.
Everyone involved has been working super hard in order to make this show possible, whether that be as an MC, performer, club officer, or tech member. This event has taken months to plan and is definitely an event you do not want to miss out on. “I would recommend seeing the Variety Show because you will get to see a diverse group of people perform a plethora of different acts to show off their unique talents. There are plenty of surprises in store and it’s a cheap and exciting way to spend your Friday night,” performer Landon Thompson said.
