Pink and green has been flourishing all over stores, whether it be a drink, makeup products, or children’s toy, the Wicked movie’s marketing has stepped up to another level. The first peculiar place this movie’s advertisements showed up was in a cupcake box. Depending on which box you bought, your batter would turn green or pink, in honor of the 2 main characters: Elphaba and Glinda.
“The cupcakes were my favorite because I kept seeing videos about it all over TikTok,” Samantha Thoma said. “At first, everyone was only getting the green color, which started a trend where everyone was trying to find the pink one. I was curious to see what the pink one looked like, so I’d watch every video of someone mixing the batter together to see if they would get it,” Thoma said
While these cupcakes started the trend for most, Wicked quickly began to appear everywhere you looked. They’ve done collaborations with many clothing brands, including Target, Aerie, Forever 21, Gap, branding jewelry, hair supplies, make up, along with even more food.
“I’m going to see an early screening, and for everyone going they give you a little Lego set of the characters. I love Legos and Wicked, so I am excited to get both in one,” Shay Russon said. “I have also seen the Stanley’s at target which were super pretty, and I think it was a smart collaboration since Stanley’s are literally everywhere nowadays. But if I were to buy anything, I’ve seen this microphone that plays songs out of it that aren’t released yet. They’ve done collaborations with like everyone I swear,” Russon said.
Starbucks has also taken the liberty of adding Wicked themed menu items, including “Glinda’s Pink Potion” and “Elphaba’s Cold Brew.”
“I’ve seen the drinks on the Starbucks menu, which I don’t know if I’d necessarily enjoy, but it’s a good idea,” Hanna Ligons said. “The pink one looks good, but I’m not sure how to feel about matcha on top of cold brew.”
Wicked can be found nearly everywhere, with collaborations at more than 60 different stores, and they have made sure that there is a piece out there for everyone, no matter their age. So, whether you are looking for a new style, a cute stuffed animal for your bed, or color changing mac and cheese, all have been made easily accessible by the Wicked marketing team.
