Rehearsals for GP’s spring musical, Newsies, have officially started. During rehearsals so far both the cast and crew have been working hard running over music, choreography, dialect, costume design and so much more in a span of such little time.
Seeing how this is a very dance heavy show, it will take a lot of effort to plan. Both dance captains, Hayden Austeberg and Sage Touchette, have explained their plans to keep the show running smoothly and successfully. “For starters, we’ve been asked to make multiple different warmups for each section of dance we have to do for the show,” Austneberg said, “and currently we have about four or five combos made already.”
Touchette is also excited to be dance captain saying that “Dance is just fun and something I’m passionate about, and I spend a lot of time in my life studying so it’s exciting and fun to do it with people who are my besties.”
Looking on the crew side of things, they are also working hard. Within crew there are many different groups of people working on different projects such as props, costumes, tech, and more. “For the musical I suppose I should start by saying that I auditioned and didn’t get in, but I still wanted to help the production, so I joined set instead. I’m excited to meet new people that I didn’t meet when I did “You Can’t Take it with You” and do something entirely new because making props and stuff is not my forte but I think I’ll be able to do it,” Quinton Brown said.
Seeing how dedicated both the cast and crew are really puts into perspective how well rehearsals are going and how the show will turn out. Alex Estoy says that “Rehearsals are going great. I like how the company, cast and crew, is coming along and I like how relationships are already being made with others, it seems like a good cast honestly.”
