FCCLA: behind the scenes

In the past semester, FCCLA has served cookies and delicious desserts during special events, including homecoming, tolo dance, senior mother’s tea, and more. Through these catering, FCCLA made more than $2000 this year, and are able to afford their Hawaii trip half price. “I think FCCLA is the best club, they have really good food, and you get to eat it all, and you get to go to Hawaii! I just think more people should join and enjoy their time here,” FCCLA member Kristen O’Shea said.

In many students’ impressions, FCCLA’s desserts also remain as some of the best memories at school, adding on to the fun of events such as field day, “I think they (FCCLA) are amazing. The cake pops last year were delicious. They had two flavors, one was chocolate, and one was vanilla, and they served it on field day,” Anton Nelson said.

However, to some FCCLA members, making the snacks isn’t always that easy. For example, making sugar cookies can sometimes be hard, “Every year we make these sugar cookies for Christmas, and we are just not the greatest frosters, so the frosting will fall over the edges,” Kylie Bean said. Carys McGee also commented on this, “I guess one fail in FCCLA is when we overcooked some cookies at times, so it turned out darker than the other ones.” Carys said.

Some members also believe that they need better time organization, so things can be more organized and fitting for their class schedule, “We’re not really good at planning how long things are going to take, so then we have to rush during school and skip classes to finish projects,” Carys McGee said.

As improvements could be made for the club, FCCLA has been a delight to GP in the first semester. “I think they (FCCLA) are doing a great job this year, keep up the good work. It’s fun catering with you,” FCCLA’s advisor Mrs. Harrelson said.
